In the early 20th century the British moved their capital from Calcutta to New delhi (1911) an entire new city comprising of markets (Connaught palace). Courts (eastern and western courts ), airports ( safdargunj airport -formerly willingden airfields) several government houses , residence of the viceroy (rashtrapati bhawan )were designed by a team of architects and engineers. The city had wide roads lined with flowering and fruit trees several new residential colonies (defence colony,south extension etc) were also designed. This part of Delhi was named New Delhi.
